This is a godsend for those of us “of a certain age.” Who wants to reveal their crotchety oldness by wearing glasses with that telltale boundary in the lens between close-up and faraway vision? Not me.

PixelOptics comes to the rescue with these electronic glasses, whose breakthrough emPower lenses use a layer of transparent liquid crystal to electronically change the lens’s optical properties to suit either nearsighted or farsighted vision.

wow…I love alien technology…

— This was just one of the many great comments we received about our electronic eyewear in an article today on Gizmodo, the web’s top gadget and tech blog. They also posted a cool video that demonstrates the way our electronic bifocal lens works, and it’s one of the best video demos I’ve ever seen. Check out the full article here, and be sure to read some of the other comments. And if you’re at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas this week, be sure to swing by our booth and see our products. Thanks Gizmodo for the coverage!

Larry Rodriguez, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Sales, shares some insight on wearer trials as we ramp up to the launch of our emPower! electronic lenses. This product is a new category for the industry, and we want to understand the differences between electronic eyewear and the best progressive lenses on the market.

Great Turn Out at Vision Expo West

I haven’t been back in America for long, but I’m back on the road again.

This time the PixelOptics team is in Las Vegas for Vision Expo West. Given the strong technology position in the West, we fit in really well here at the show. So while we look forward to showing off the latest designs for our emPower! electronic eyewear,  we expect to answer lots of questions about the technology inside them.

If you’re at Vision Expo this year, look for us in booth 10095. We’ll be doing emPower! demos and running a cross-promotion with Aspex Eyewear in booth 18041. If our time at Silmo in Paris is any indication, I expect a great event in Vegas with our partners and potential customers. We’re already seeing great crowds at the booth - come on by!

It’s a Wrap!

What an amazing time in Europe. I’m still on Cloud 9. It was a great time at Silmo 2010, the eyewear trade show that we viewed as our moment to introduce European countries to PixelOptics’ emPower! technology.

We’d been to Silmo before, but this was our first time there with a booth presence. Our gracious host was lens distributor NOVACEL. This was huge for us. They were awesome to do it. Trade shows are about conducting business and finding new sales opportunities, but they’re also about having a little fun with colleagues in the industry. And NOVACEL threw some great parties in the booth. At the end of every day, they gave out appetizers (excuse me, this was Paris, they were hors d’oeuvres), champagne and had live music and dancing. It was a big deal and attracted a lot of folks from aroundthe show.

I flew back to America more than confident that PixelOptics and NOVACEL did a great job of introducing emPower! and our company to Europe. The booth was full the entire time we were there, and people were thrilled with the demos and different frame designs. A few French TV stations even dropped by for media interviews. On Sunday - the last day of the show - the majority of the visits were from optometrists and opticians because they take off Sundays in France.

When all is said and done, it was a successful few days in Paris for our growing company, and PixelOptics is riding a strong wave of momentum as it approaches Vision Expo West this week.

Hey guys - Clay here. Wanted to fill you in on the great event we held for European lens distributors the night before Silmo 2010 began. It was attended by distributors from Italy, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Great Britain and Austria. In addition to the presentation of our emPower! brand, the distributors enjoyed presentations from Mark Graham, our Director of Electronic Frames, and Peter Zieman, our Director of European Sales.
Mark led an interesting discussion on frame innovations (see the photo) and showcased some of the cool new frame ideas that PixelOptics’s design team has created. We’ll be sure to post pictures of those frames on the blog in due time.
Peter discussed how PixelOptics was putting the pieces in place to support our distributors in the coming years as new products are rolled out. The evening ended with demonstrations of the emPower! prototypes, and the feedback so far has been very positive.
